What does “C.A.R.E.” stand for?

The official name of our program is Grove City Area C.A.R.E. Living at Home Program. "C.A.R.E.” stands for Community Answers for Reaching the Elderly. C.A.R.E. is not just a name, it’s what we do.

What is the Grove City Area C.A.R.E. Program all about?

The Grove City Area C.A.R.E. Living at Home Program was organized by a group of concerned citizens to help local seniors remain safe and independent in their own homes and community. The Living at Home Programs are a national concept that draws on the professional and volunteer services of the local residents to provide information, social and support services, nursing and other services for their elderly neighbors and to help them remain independent in their own homes.

How long has it been around?

The program was organized in early 1997, and began providing services by utilizing volunteers in October of that same year. Some of the services provided are transportation, meal delivery, meal preparation, grocery and prescriptions delivery, light housekeeping, friendly visiting and friendly phone reassurance, and information and referral services. We have a large pool of trained volunteers and community volunteers to draw from for services. We also provide a variety of services for healthy seniors in the area by facilitating educational opportunities and a fitness program.

Who does it serve?

Grove City Area C.A.R.E. Living at Home Program provides service to Meeker County while reaching further out into communities in need of services. The program is for anyone over the age of 60, regardless of ability to pay.

What kind of medical services are provided?

The GCA C.A.R.E. Program contracts with Ecumen Home Care and Hospice for Medicare Certified Home Health Care. Ecumen Home Care and Hospice provides skilled nursing services, home health aides, & homemakers, therapies - OT, PT, Speech, and Hospice Care. This agency along with the GCA C.A.R.E. volunteer service provides a continuum of care that is not duplicated in the area. Monthly foot care clinics are offered through Sara's Sole Care.

Who pays for the Program?

The program is funded in part by a grant from the Minnesota Department of Health. The Program also seeks funds from area businesses, organizations and private individuals.
